Wake up Australia!
Hi David,
No doubt you are aware of the new tax being introduced in Australia (GST).
Before its implementation the government promised us all that there would
never be a GST on rent, petrol or fresh (unprocessed) foods. With less
than a week before it is implemented the government is openly lying to the
public about the GST. Now they tell us that rent is going to rise with the
GST, blah, blah, blah. Of course I have heard all of this before. It comes
as no surprise. This government lies through its teeth to the public all
the time.
What bugs me is that this time we have a government obviously engaging in
sneaky and underhand movements to deceive the public. Even though we all
seem to realise this, WE ARE DOING NOTHING ABOUT IT! We have just
complained a little bit and gone about our own business. I can't
understand why Australians are so compliant. In London we had the infamous
Brixton Riots when good ol' Thatcher tried introducing that Poll Tax. The
power of the people during that time told the government in no uncertain
terms that the tax was not welcome. And it was stopped. Why has nothing
been done by Australians to stop this deceitful government? I think it is
because we have a long history of just accepting what we are given.
How can we organise meetings to inform the public of
the power we do have to stop things like this from happening. Is there a
way we can inspire people to act instead of stay drugged in blissful
laziness? Surely there are enough people willing to risk ridicule by a
nation of cynics to start the snowball rolling, but how can we do it in a
peaceful, effective and inspiring manner? I'd appreciate any thoughts you
might have on this.
