Mr Thabo Mbeki, the President of South Africa,
announced the formation of an International Investment
Council, a body that will advise the government,
especially the president, on how to attract foreign
investment.
13 of the ultimate 15 member council were named by
Mbeki on Friday. Amongst those named are the following:
1. George Soros ( Chairman : Soros Fund Management )
2. Tony O'Reilly( Chairman : Independent News & Media)
3. Hassan Marikan ( President: Petronas of Malaysia )
4. William Rhodes( VP: Citigroup )
5. Sam Jonah ( CE : Ashanti Goldfields )
6. Juergen Schrempp( CE DaimlerChrysler )
7. Martin Kohlhausen( Chairman: Comerzbank )
8. Percy Barnevik (Chairman: Investor AB )
9. Niall FitzGerald( Unilever )

O'Reilly ( friend of Robert Mugabe, the vicious dictator of Zimbabwe, and
Henry Kissinger, and owner of the biggest newspaper group in South Africa)
etc., etc.
Also, Rothschilds, the merchant bank, was appointed to
compile a report to tackle the issue of trimming the
staff complement of Spoornet, a South African
transport parastatal. It employs over 100,000 people,
mostly blacks who have poor educational background. It
was said that about 27,000 people could lose their
jobs.
